The Morson Women’s Institute met October 26th at Buena Vista Resort, and we extend our appreciation to Chuck, Dorothy and the staff for their hospitality this past summer.
Ruth Brett of Lake of the Woods W. I. was our guest and reported on the Area Convention she attended in Dryden in September. Ruth is also President of the District W. I. and Chair for the W. I. Emo Museum board. The 2007 Area Convention will be held in Rainy River and chaired by Irene Huntley of the McIrvine branch. Ruth reviewed past fundraising events for the museum and also the present status of where we are in acquiring a new location for the museum. Members are presently packing the artifacts in preparation for a move to a future new building. In the interim, all branches are actively fundraising for dollars required to proceed with the construction.
Cindy gave a wrap-up of the 2006-07 MTA projects and the 2006 MBI, advising that meetings are already being held for next years events. Both Organizations would appreciate hearing from anyone interested in sitting on either board. Cindy expressed her gratitude to the Morson branch for our participation for past years and also thanked Ruth from the Lake of the Woods W. I. for their sessions on sewing and crafts for the youth of the Township and area.
Correspondence was read regarding the NWHU offering of Food Preparation sessions this fall; however none are planned for our area at this time.
In other business, we sent $35 for our Remembrance Day wreath to the Legion. We agreed to give MBI $150 towards the construction of picnic tables; sent $50 to the Rainy River Hospital auxiliary for their monster bingo’s. Following lengthy discussion regarding the Riverside “Just Imagine” campaign, members agreed to send $500 immediately to the cat scan effort.
Upcoming events include our Christmas party which will be held Saturday December 16th 2006, at the Morson Hall. The Museum Board will also hold a fundraising effort at the Emo Legion on December 2nd for benefit of the Museum building fund.
