If you are a curling fan the Rainy River Curling Club has something special in store for you... Guy Hemmings will be coming to town on Nov. 9th to promote the game.
Hemmings is a four time Quebec champion and two time runner up at the Brier. However, he is best known for not only being a great curler but one filled with character to the point where fans love his antics.
One such instance occurred at the 1998 brier where a power surge knocked lights out and Hemmings jokingly changed the score board so his team was winning. Fans loved it!
Since 2001 he has had a personal mission to give back to the game so much of what it has given him. He has visited 175 communities in Canada promoting the game as part of the Guy Hemmings Rockin’ The House Tour. Well next week he will tour Atikokan, Fort Frances, Emo, Stratton and finally Rainy River on Thursday.
He will visit the local schools and talk to young people about curling. After school he will conduct a curling clinic with Rainy River’s Junior Curling Club. Head Coach Debbie Armstrong is very excited and can’t wait to see how Hemmings will charge up her 32 and possibly more this year, junior curlers.
After the hands on with the kids it is the adults turn. Hemmings will stay for supper and a social with adults only. Tickets are limited to 100 and are on sale at RR Drugs, True Value, Susan’s, the Legion and the Curling Club.
People just wanting to attend the social can pay less at the rink to do so. That will be followed by a celebrity curling game featuring local celebrities. It will be two ends and then after that people can enter to win a chance to curl with Hemmings in another two end game.
All the stuff for the kids is free and all monies raised at the adult functions will go to the RR Junior Curling Program.
